Microsoft Surface sales are yet to take off according to some unofficial reports, but at least the Redmond-based technology company has made the right choice when it decided to name the device this way.

A report released by MarketingProfs.com places Microsoft Surface on top of the list with the best product names of 2012, as it perfectly describes the tablet’s design and features.

“The name Surface is ideal here, evoking both a thin plane and a wide surface area—a deft allusion to the tablet's screen (which is larger than Apple's) and the functionality of the tablet's entire surface, including its cover/keyboard. It's also a welcomed change in a space infested with names like the ASUS Eee Pad Transformer Prime and Ematic eGlide XL Pro,” the report reads.

On the other hand, Microsoft’s very own “So.cl” social network service has been voted the worst product name of the year, along with “Tampax Radiant” and “Pepperidge Farm Jingos!”.
