Surface tablets aren't getting any firmware updates this month

This morning Microsoft rolled out the May 2014 Patch Tuesday updates to address a number of vulnerabilities in its software, but as it happens every month, users were also expecting to see some new firmware updates for Surface tablets.

Unfortunately, Microsoft has apparently ignored the Surface tablets for the second month in a row, so no new firmwares have been released today for those who own such a tablet.

As Neowin points out, this is the second straight month when Microsoft isn't releasing a firmware update for any of its four models, which include the Surface RT, the Surface Pro, the Surface 2, and the Surface Pro 2.

Now the Surface update history page simply states that “no products updates were released in May,” so those of you who have purchased such a device need to wait at least one more month before getting any improvements.

In the meantime, Microsoft is readying a new Surface model, called Surface Mini, which could be unveiled as soon as next month during a press conference in New York on May 20. At the same time, Microsoft could also launch what could be called the Surface Pro 3, an upgraded model offering full support for desktop applications.
