Redmond has now launched the second-generation Surface tablet and just as rumored, the refreshed devices do not feature 3G or LTE support and continue to bet big on Wi-Fi connectivity.

Panos Panay, the man in charge with the Surface division at Microsoft, confirmed in an AMA session on Reddit that a Surface 2 with LTE will be launched next year.

"We didn't talk about it today, but Surface 2 will be launching an awesome LTE SKU early next year!" Panay explained in a short message.

While it’s not yet clear whether Microsoft wants to bring LTE support on the Surface 2 or the Surface Pro 2, such an addition is obviously good news for buyers, as the new tablets are supposed to enhance productivity on the go. With dongles still missing from the market, support for LTE was a must-have, although many people believe that it comes a little bit later.
