14 DAY TRIAL // Microsoft’s Surface 2 tablet with LTE support is almost here according to a new round of reports, this time revealing that the device is now being sent to stores across the United States for the official debut.
WPCentral is reporting via sources that asked not to be named that Surface 2 with LTE comes with wireless support from AT&T, so the device would only work in the United States for the time being.
There are no technical details whatsoever, but it appears that the Surface 2, which runs Windows RT 8.1, is the only model of the tablet that’ll get an LTE flavor. It’s not clear right now if Microsoft is also planning LTE SKUs of the Surface Pro 2 as well.
The Surface 2 with LTE was officially announced in October 2013 when Microsoft officially introduced the second-generation Surface tablet that comprises upgraded models for both the RT and the Pro units.
The LTE SKU, on the other hand, is said to provide enhanced productivity as it allows users to access the Internet on the go. With the help of a Touch or Type Cover, the Surface 2 with LTE could truly replace a laptop, providing enhanced portability and longer battery life.
No pricing details are available for the time being, but expect the Surface 2 with LTE to be a bit more expensive than the standard models which retail from $449 (€323).
The Surface 2 runs Windows RT 8.1 and is being delivered with a free copy of Microsoft Office 2013 RT. It has either 32 GB or 64 GB of storage space and 2GB of RAM, while also boasting a 10.6-inch ClearType full HD display with a resolution of 1920x1080.
The CPU is an NVIDIA Tegra 4 chip which thanks to a number of optimizations can provide up to 10 hours of autonomy, as well as 7 to 15 days of idle life.
The device packs plenty of connectivity options, including a full-size USB 3.0 port, a microSDXC card reader, HD video out port, Bluetooth 4.0 and Wi-Fi. Enhanced storage space is available via OneDrive, Microsoft’s very own cloud-based storage service that allows users to save files they have on the tablet straight in the cloud.
OneDrive comes with 7GB of free space for all users, but those who purchase a Surface 2 tablet can get an additional of 200GB at absolutely no cost thanks to a limited-time offer.
