As I’ve reported to you this morning, Microsoft is planning to launch an LTE SKU of the Surface 2 tablet, but the company has until now refused to provide any specifics on this new project.

While it did confirm in late 2013 that an LTE model of the tablet would arrive in early 2014, but new reports that surfaced this morning revealed that the launch of the device is very close.

WPCentral is reporting, again via unnamed sources, that a 64GB version of the Surface 2 with LTE will be available for $679 (€490), up from the starting price of $549 (€395) for the standard model.

Besides Wi-Fi a/b/g/n, the new Surface 2 with LTE will also come with support for 850/900/1800/1900 2G bands, 3G UMTS (bands 1, 2, 5) and LTE (bands 4, 7, 17). The wireless support will be offered with the help of AT&T, so the device will be for now available in the United States exclusively.

There’s no word on the launch date, but according to previous reports, the device is expected to be unveiled in the coming weeks, as Microsoft Stores across the United States are already receiving the first batches of units to start selling the new Surface tablet soon.
