A brand new Surface tablet is reportedly in the works as we speak, according to some previous reports, with people familiar with the matter pointing to an October release, most likely together with Windows 8.1.

Now a new report published by Neowin and citing anonymous sources (which is a clear indication that we should take everything with a pinch of salt) claims that the second-generation Surface Pro might be equipped with an Intel Core i5 processor, while the RAM is likely to be doubled from 4GB to 8GB.

At the same time, Microsoft is looking to improve the built-in kickstand and make it not only more durable, but also a bit more useful by implementing some yet-to-be-disclosed changes.

While these technical upgrades pretty much make sense, the same report claims that Microsoft is also trying to continue big investments in marketing campaigns.

This time, the company won’t spend so much money on showing people dancing around Surface tablets, but on commercials that actually show the key features of the device.

No details on pricing right now, but the same story hints that the second-generation model might have the same price tag as the existing Surface Pro tablet.
