A new patch and certification would have cost too much

Video game publisher Microsoft has issued a statement which supports developer’s Polytron decision to re-launch a patch for Fez regardless of the fact that it was broken.

An official response from the company reads: “Microsoft Studios chose to support this decision based on the belief that Polytron/Trapdoor were in the best position to determine what the acceptable quality level is for their game. While we do not disclose the cost of Title Updates, we did offer to work with Trapdoor to make sure that wasn’t a blocking issue.”

Previously Polytron said that Microsoft was asking the company a lot of money in order to certify a new patch, which might introduce a new set of problems, and that re-launching the old one was the only way of updating the game at this point.

Fez quickly became one of the most interesting titles on the Xbox Live Arcade, but it has been plagued by a number of problems since launch.
