The publisher emphasizes exclusivity deal with Insomniac over the new game

Microsoft has made it clear that Sunset Overdrive, the upcoming Xbox One exclusive game, won't launch on the PS4 platform, even if independent developer Insomniac Games still owns the rights for the project.

In the past few months, quite a few controversies appeared concerning the exclusivity or perceived exclusivity of various games on certain platforms like PS4 or Xbox One. What's more, in quite a few cases, like with Rise of the Tomb Raider, it became clear that their exclusivity deals were only temporary.

As such, these debates put a lot of upcoming exclusives under the spotlight, as the desire for profit is forcing many developers and publishers to go multi-platform and ensure a bigger potential customer base.

As far as Sunset Overdrive is concerned, the fact that developer Insomniac is still the owner of the project's rights also led to some worries among Xbox One owners about seeing the game on other platforms.

Microsoft's Aaron Greenberg has stepped forward on Twitter and revealed that Sunset Overdrive is "exclusive exclusive," hinting that the deal signed with Insomniac forbids the game's appearance on the PS4, not even after the Xbox One version's debut.

Such a deal was already employed by Microsoft with Titanfall, as it forbade EA and Respawn from launching the game on the PS4. However, it's unclear if Sunset Overdrive might see a release on PC, like many other Xbox One exclusives from last year, i.e. Dead Rising 3 or Ryse: Son of Rome.
