Microsoft’s stock skyrocketed yesterday amid reports that we’re getting closer to an official announcement on the new CEO, reaching the highest level in the last 13 years.

NASDAQ is reporting that Microsoft stock jumped 1.6 percent yesterday to close at $38.94 (€28.64), which is the highest price since 2000 when they reached a record $39.25 (€28.87).

It’s all happening following speculation that Microsoft is getting closer to announcing a new CEO, with people familiar with the matter claiming that the new leader is likely to be revealed by year-end.

At this point, Ford’s CEO Alan Mullaly and internal Satya Nadella are said to be the front-runners for the CEO position, even though sources close to the negotiations revealed that Microsoft is also discussing with some other candidates.

Stephen Elop, former Nokia boss, Kevin Turner, and Tony Bates are believed to be on Microsoft’s shortlist for the vacant spot as well.
