14 DAY TRIAL // Windows RT is one of the platforms that many users considered to be rather useless, pretty much because it doesn't support full Windows applications and comes with several limitations in terms of usability.
Although some people believed that Microsoft is finally ready to give up on Windows RT and make the move to full Windows in future tablets, it appears that the company still wants to give the ARM platform a chance, as it considers it to be the right choice for playing and getting work done.
The Surface team revealed in an AMA session on Reddit that Windows RT is here to stay and pointed to the Surface 2 tablet, which was launched in October 2013, as living proof for how many great things this platform can actually do.
“Windows on ARM continues to be an important part of the Windows strategy. The Surface 2 (which runs Windows RT) is a great choice for both play and getting work done. Windows on ARM got even better with recent additions including third-party MDM, workplace join and Outlook, which is preinstalled along with the other Microsoft Office apps (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and OneNote), with the Windows RT 8.1 update,” the Surface team said.
Windows RT is currently powering two different models in Microsoft's range, namely Surface RT and Surface 2, but more devices might follow in the coming years.
