Microsoft has started a new update cycle for the built-in Windows 8 Metro apps just ahead of the Windows 8.1 unveiling scheduled to take place in about one month.

Both Xbox Music and Xbox Video have received updates during the weekend, as Microsoft wanted to implement a new set of features in the two Modern apps.

While the Music tool received support for iTunes playlists, Video was enhanced with movie trailers for all regions, visuals to show viewing progress in TV shows and movies, plus additional minor fixes and performance improvements.

Windows 8.1 is expected to hit the Store on June 26 in preview form, with the update to be offered free of charge to all Windows users. The stable version of the operating system is expected to be released later this year.
