After teasing Xbox 360 owners this summer, Microsoft has now unveiled a new Xbox Live Rewards program designed to award players with various things, including gifts during their birthday months and rebates based on their purchases on the Xbox Live Marketplace.

Ever since the release of the Xbox 360 back in 2006, owners of the console have bragged about their Gamerscore, which gets bigger and bigger every time they unlock an achievement within the game.

Now, after encouraging the accumulation of such points, Microsoft has decided to implement an Xbox Live Rewards program specifically designed to award such behavior.

The new system, called MyAchievements, is available only to Xbox Live Gold members and has three tiers.

“You've been faithfully building your Gamerscore for years now. To reward you for your dedication, we've created MyAchievements for Xbox LIVE Rewards Gold members. The MyAchievements level that you earn – Contender, Champion or Legend – depends on your Gamerscore. The higher your score, the bigger the reward,” Microsoft said about the new reward scheme.

If you have a Gamerscore between 3000 and 9999, you’re a Contender, which means you get a special gift during your birthday month. Sadly, that gift, according to Microsoft’s fineprint, is worth only $0.25 (around €0.19).

If you have between 10000 and 24999, you’re a Champion, which means you get a gift plus a monthly 1% rebate on all the purchases you make on the Xbox Live Marketplace. For example if you buy something worth 800 MS Points, you get 8 points back.

Last but not least, there’s the Legend tier, which rewards those with over 25000 Gamerscore, who receive a gift during their birthday month plus a 2% rebate on their purchases each month.

Even if these prizes may not sound that impressive, it’s nice to see Microsoft make an effort to reward its loyal customers.

When the first announced gamerscore we all assumed they would do something like this. But 2% off virtual items?
come on, they can do better than that.
