Microsoft has started the Windows Live Messenger shutdown, now asking all users still running it to make the move to Skype, the company’s very own VoIP platform.

In an attempt to show everyone that Skype is at least worth a try, Microsoft also published a slideshow showcasing James, “the city’s most stylish accountancy student,” who is also an ex-Messenger fan very pleased with Skype.

While Microsoft’s attempts are not at all surprising and we all could see these coming, some users do not agree with the decision to completely retire Messenger, especially because Skype lacks some of its features.

Many Messenger fans have turned to the official support forums to blast Microsoft and Skype, while also expressing their intentions to completely dump Microsoft’s instant messaging services after WLM’s complete retirement.
