As announced last month, Microsoft today started boosting the OneDrive storage capacity of each Office 365 Home and personal customer to 1 TB, all at no additional cost.

And that's not all. In case you're an Office 365 Personal subscriber, you obviously get just 1 TB of storage space, but in the case of packages with access for more users, Microsoft is giving away 1 TB of space for every user. This means that Office 365 Home will get a maximum of 5 TB of free storage, again at no extra cost.

The storage has already been added to the majority of accounts, Microsoft said, but in case you can't see the 1 TB maximum limit yet, WinSuperSite recommends to click on “Get more storage” and check the additional space that appears next to your subscription type.

Microsoft is obviously delighted with this move and says that it's part of its commitment to offer users a service with so much storage that they won't need to expand on the short term.

"We really want to make OneDrive the one place for all the stuff that people have in their personal and work lives," OneDrive head of product management and product marketing Angus Logan was quoted as saying by the aforementioned source. "And part of delivering that is to give people enough storage to move all their stuff into the cloud. Now, they don't need to worry about space anymore."

In case you're wondering, the most affordable version of Office 365 is the Personal package, which can be yours for only $6.99 per month, bringing you not only access to apps such as Word and Excel, but also 1 TB of free cloud storage.

Prices for OneDrive storage were also dropped last month, with Microsoft saying that those who want to purchase even more space can do it at special prices: $1.99 (€1.10) for 100 GB (down from $7.49 / €5.5) or $3.99 (€2.95) for 200 GB (down from $11.49 / €8.45).

“Of course, we also want to give you as much flexibility as possible, so if you need more storage, but don’t need an Office 365 subscription, we will also still provide monthly subscription storage options – at dramatically reduced rates,” the company explained in an announcement made public last month.

At this point, Microsoft says there are 1 billion Office users worldwide, so there's no doubt that today's space increase comes in very handy to many and appeal to those currently using non-Microsoft products.
