Spindex, a Microsoft FUSE Labs project, aims to be to social networking what Bing is to Internet search. Essentially, the Redmond company has worked on a tool designed to allow end users to filter their social overload. In this regard, the promise from the software giant is that Spindex will offer a comprehensive overview of a user’s entire social world on a single page. No more than a single page will centralize content from a variety of sources, connecting customers to Facebook, Twitter, Evernote, RSS, and Bing.

Spindex is “the latest exploration within FUSE Labs that I’m announcing this afternoon at the Web 2.0 Expo in San Francisco. Spindex, which we’re making available in early technical preview form, aggregates your social streams (Facebook, Twitter, Bing, etc.), making it simple for you to find what’s new, see personalized trending topics, and generally make the most of the time you spend being social on the Web,” according to Lili Cheng, general manager, Microsoft FUSE Labs.

In keeping with Microsoft, the current list of social-networking services that Spindex connects to will be expanded in the future, although the software giant provided no details related to its plans moving onward. As Cheng said, Spindex is currently available exclusively as a Technical Preview to a limited pool of early adopters, with invitations handed out at the Web 2.0 Expo.

“Spindex allows you to access and interact with your social networks, see trends from your friends, and see related info from Bing on literally everything you click on. Spindex proactively finds useful articles and information based on your interest in your friends’ messages and comments. It lets you find out more about the topics that your friends and feeds are talking about in one click - so you can jump into the conversation,” an excerpt from the application’s description reads.

One of the strong points of Spindex is the intimate connection it offers between social-networking services and the Redmond company’s decision/search engine. Spindex will not act as a reader for social-networking information, but will be a discoverability tool capable of delivering suggestions from Bing to social content pulled from Facebook or Twitter.
