By the summer of this year, Vexcel Imaging, a company which Microsoft acquired in 2006, had sold no less than 125 megapixel cameras out of its lineup of products. According to statistics made available by the company located in Graz, Austria, a total of 32 UltraCam devices were purchased by various customers worldwide in the 2009 fiscal year alone, namely between July 2008 and June 2009.

By mid-2009, UltraCam sales in the past fiscal year translated into 12 UltraCamX units, 16 UltraCamXp units and 4 UltraCamL units. Vexcel Imaging applauded the sales performance for 2009, a year in which companies across the globe have been cutting back on spending in order to dodge the effects of the worldwide economic downturn.

“Needless to say, we are pleased to be able to report such a successful year,” noted Alexander Wiechert, Business Director of Microsoft and Managing Director for Vexcel Imaging GmbH. “Given the exceptional value of the UltraCam system, we remained cautiously optimistic even as the economy worsened. Having said that, 32 system sales during a historically tough economic period exceeded even our expectations and is testament to the market recognition of our products as sound investments.”

However, the 32 UltraCam units sold do not tell the entire story for Vexcel Imaging. As such, the company revealed that it also saw 10 UltraCamX-to-UltraCamXp system upgrades in 2009. The upgrades were not integrated into the sales figures. An important aspect in this regard is that UltraCam customers are sufficiently satisfied with the devices that they upgrade, or even buy newer products. It is the case of seven UltraCamX sales that went to customers already owning an UltraCamD.

“With these 2009 transactions, but not factoring the additional system upgrades, UltraCam worldwide adoption is now at 125 units sold and breaks down as follows: UltraCamD: 47 units sold; UltraCamX: 58 units sold; UltraCamXp: 16 units sold; UltraCamL: 4 units sold,” Vexcel Imaging explained.
