Microsoft Sold 100 Million Windows 8 Licenses Since Launch
The company reveals more sales stats about its new operating system
Tami Reller, Microsoft’s Chief Marketing Officer and Chief Financial Officer, has just revealed that Microsoft sold more than 100 million Windows 8 licenses since launch, trying to put an end to speculation claiming that the new OS is a rather disappointing product.Without providing any information on Microsoft’s internal expectations, Reller said that the number of certified systems for Windows 8 and Windows RT is also increasing, so more touch-capable devices are expected to be released in the coming months.
“We recently surpassed the 100 million licenses sold mark for Windows 8. This number includes Windows licenses that ship on a new tablet or PC, as well as upgrades to Windows 8. This is up from the 60 million license number we provided in January. We’ve also seen the number of certified devices for Windows 8 and Windows RT grow to 2,400 devices, and we’re seeing more and more touch devices in the mix,” Reller explained.
As far as the market share goes, Windows 8 isn’t such an impressive operating system, with Net Applications data pointing to a 3.82 percent score for the month of April 2013.
