The mystery surrounding the new Microsoft CEO continues as the Redmond-based tech giant continues the search for a leader to take over from Steve Ballmer.

According to StreetInsider, analyst Kash Rangan believes that the appointment of Alan Mulally, currently head of American carmaker Ford, as Microsoft CEO could boost Redmond’s shares by up to 10 percent.

On the other hand, in case Kevin Turner, Stephen Elop, Satya Nadella, or Tony Bates become CEO, the company’s stock would go down by 10 points, he said.

At this point, Alan Mulally is said to be in pole position for taking over the vacant seat, but some people familiar with the matter also indicate the a long-term plan with Kevin Turner as temporary CEO for two or three years is also very likely.

An announcement on this is expected to be made by year-end, as the company has reportedly cut its shortlist to only three to five names.
