A Microsoft-branded device and mobile services included in Pink

According to the latest news on the Internet, Redmond-based software company Microsoft has selected ad agency McCann Erickson for the development of the Microsoft “Pink Project” campaign, or at least this is what AdWeek reports. McCann, in case you aren't aware of this fact already, is also in charge of the Windows Mobile advertising efforts. No details on the amount of money Microsoft will allocate to the campaign have emerged.

The Pink Project, as many of you might already know, involves both a Microsoft-branded phone as well as a series of consumer services for the device, which seem to be developed by the Danger team, purchased by the software company last year. According to ZDNet's Mary-Jo Foley, the Pink phone is expected to be something different than what future mobile phones running under the company's OS would be, though it should come with the next-generation Windows Mobile 7 as well.

For the time being, Microsoft hasn't said anything on Pink, except for the fact that it will not come to the market with its own mobile phone. According to some of the rumors on the Web, we might expect the device to come from a certain manufacturer, while the Redmond company to provide only the chassis for the handset. The rumored manufacturers for the phone are Motorola and Sharp, due to their previous collaboration with Danger.

Given the amount of services that the upcoming Windows Mobile platform should include, we can easily assume that Pink will also come to the market with Zune music/video, MyPhone, Windows Marketplace for Mobile and other services. At the same time, it seems that the UI of Pink, which seems to be called Purple, is expected to be something rather different than what we are accustomed with.

There are a lot of questions that rise here, undoubtedly, yet all that can be said at the moment is based only on suppositions, as Microsoft keeps the silence on the entire matter. Even so, given the fact that Windows Mobile 7 is expected to come to developers sometime this fall, with the first handsets to sport it available on the market sometime in April next year, it shouldn't be too long before more details become available, so stay tune to learn more on this.
