While building Microsoft Security Essentials 2.0, Microsoft is also preparing to kick up a notch the antimalware engine of its free security solution offered to users of Windows.
In this regard, the Redmond company revealed that it is planning to deliver new Microsoft Security Essentials (MSE) and Forefront Client Security (FCS) releases in mid-August 2010, which will feature a new antimalware engine at their core.
The move is planned for approximately a week from now, and it is part of the natural evolution process for the two security offerings.
Customers running Microsoft Security Essentials and Forefront Client Security should by no means expect an upgrade to the two solutions.
The software giant is in fact focusing on better tailoring both MSE and FCS to the new threats that attackers are producing and releasing into the wild.
“As part of regular update of our antimalware technology to address the latest in the threat landscape, MMPC is planning to release a new antimalware engine on 16 Aug 2010,” a member of Microsoft Malware Protection Center noted
“Affected products: Microsoft Security Essentials (MSE), Forefront Client Security (FCS). Engine Version will be in the range of 1.1.610X.0,” the company explained.
The upcoming update to Microsoft Security Essentials’ antimalware engine comes at approximately a month since the Redmond company released the previous update. On July 15, Microsoft pushed the antimalware engine of MSE and FCS up to version 1.1.6004.0. The refresh scheduled to drop the coming week will introduce version 1.1.610X.0.
Of course, Microsoft has yet to decide on the actual version number for the MSE and FCS updates, but customers will need to wait only until August 16th in order to find out all versioning details.
Microsoft is currently hard at work building the next iteration of Microsoft Security Essentials. The company is currently testing the Beta development milestone of Microsoft Security Essentials 2.0
, which was offered to early adopters for testing as early as the second half of July 2010. Update (Aug 16): The release date of Antimalware Engine 1.1.610X.0 has changed from 16 Aug 2010 to 19 Aug 2010.Microsoft Security Essentials is available for download here.Follow me on Twitter @MariusOiaga.
