Anti-virus testing institute AV-TEST has rolled out a new bunch of statistics, revealing that Microsoft’s Security Essentials is once again “the baseline” of anti-virus software on the market.

While AV-TEST evaluated the protection, performance, and usability of the most security products currently on the market compatible with the 32-bit version of Windows 7, Microsoft Security Essentials has once again disappointed, with the tech giant’s product achieving only 9.5 points.

To get AV-TEST’s certification, an anti-virus application needs to get at least 10 points.

Microsoft Security Essentials got 0.5 points out of 6 for protection, while scoring 5 for the performance it offered on Windows 7. As far as usability is concerned, MSE has been rated 4 out of 6.

Bitdefender has once again managed to lead the charts with 17.5 points, while Kaspersky was the runner-up with 17 points. Norton got the same score, but all products received AV-TEST’s certification following the new round of tests.
