Microsoft has demonstrated a new Windows 8 application during the company’s internal meeting with employees and said to be part of a so-called “Gemini” release cycle.

The Verge is reporting that Office Reader will be an app aimed at opening web pages, documents, PDFs, ebooks, and textbooks, with users allowed to post notes and annotations that can be saved and accessed at a later time.

The app is expected to be optimized for the Surface Pro pen, thus providing superior productivity for users who need to quickly circle, underline, highlight, or make notes of a specific document.

By default Office Reader will come with several pre-defined sections, including library, sources, and recommendations, all of which are easily accessible from within the app.

Microsoft's Kirk Koenigsbauer has already showed the app to users during the internal meeting, so expect it to be included in the first large update for Windows 8.1 projected to go live in early 2014.
