Microsoft has said that sales of the Xbox One console in the United States are “strong and steady,” but the company has refrained from releasing any actual figures to the public.

The statement follows the latest monthly report from analyst firm NPD, stating that US gamers spent close to $200 / €150 million on new hardware during July, which represents a whopping 100 percent increase from last year’s July figures.

“Xbox One continues to sell at a strong and steady pace following the release of the $399 console in June, when month-to-month sales more than doubled. We continued to see this momentum in July,” a Microsoft spokesperson has told VentureBeat.

The latest known official figures from Microsoft date from April this year, when the company revealed that it had pushed over 5 million units of the Xbox One computer entertainment system worldwide.

The latest information from Sony dates from earlier this week, when the Japanese hardware and software giant confirmed that the PlayStation 4 surpassed 10 million units sold, maintaining its dominance of the next-gen console market.

For the time being, it is unknown whether the Redmond-based corporation is waiting for the Xbox One to be launched in more markets before revealing fresh official numbers. Sony’s PlayStation 4 is currently available in a number of 72 countries, while the Xbox One in only 13, with 26 more to be added come September.
