Microsoft called the listing of an Xbox One free-day promotion for Xbox Live Gold members "an error," following yesterday's leak.

Information about a promotion regarding a test program that would unlock select Xbox One titles for 24 hours surfaced on the Internet yesterday, and the Redmond-based corporation stated that it was all due to an error.

In spite of all the reports and excitement, it seems that Microsoft currently has no plans to release such a program, at least not for the time being.

The hardware and software giant was reportedly testing a new feature for the Xbox One computer entertainment system, called "Free Play Day With Gold," that would unlock certain video games for a limited time.

"A promotional tile for 'Max: The Curse of Brotherhood' was posted briefly on the US dash in error yesterday. We apologise for any inconvenience."

"We're constantly exploring different ways to offer more benefits to our Xbox Live Gold members and will keep them updated when special offers become available," a Microsoft spokesperson said.

The company acknowledged the listing as genuine, but said that its public appearance was a mistake.

For the time being, there is no information regarding how, when, or even if Microsoft plans to introduce the feature. Although the door remains open, the company is not ready to make any announcements yet.
