A Microsoft representative had some very interesting things to say about open source

A Microsoft legal representative has said during a hearing in the European Parliament that open source actually presents a higher vulnerability risk.

Dorothee Belz, the EMEA vice president of legal and corporate affairs, was answering a question about NSA backdoors into proprietary software, directed by a few members of the European Parliament.

“Open source versus proprietary software is a heated debated for many years. Open source has the beauty to be opened, but it also opened to those people who want to create some vulnerabilities and use the software for what they want. It's not more secure, I would even say that it has a higher risk with open source that unwarranted access is taking place than for controlled software,” she said.

The one thing she failed to mention was the fact that such open source software can be easily fixed if something does go wrong, and all changes are scrutinized by the community.
