The Xbox 360 is a console that, during the last months, has really gained a massive amount of popularity. This is largely due to the fact that it has seen a lot of exclusive games being launched for it, like Gears of War 2 or Fable II, but most of all thanks to the price cut it has received before fall, which made it the cheapest console on the market, trumping its rivals, the Wii and the PlayStation 3.

Another key release for the North American console wasn't a game but a complete revamp of its user interface. Dubbed the New Xbox Experience, it completely replaced the old blade system and offered all of the Xbox 360 users a completely new system, on par with the interfaces found in its arch rivals.

Aaron Greenberg, the group product manager for the Xbox 360 at Microsoft, talked about the NXE at the recent CES convention. He went on to say that the update was devised as a fresh start for the Xbox 360 and that it reinvented the console for its old users, making it more attractive and friendly to new ones, who would purchase the console in the future. He then mentioned that a lot of things could be added to this new interface and that Xbox 360 users needed to prepare for new things in the coming year.

“When we approached the NXE, we really thought about it as if we were launching an entirely new console. When we started thinking about all the changes and possibilities, at first we thought 'Well, we'll update this, change that.' Then we thought, well, 'What if we just completely wiped the slate clean and completely reinvent the console from the ground up?' It was a pretty massive undertaking, a massive amount of work and we've been very happy with the results. We've designed it so we can continuously update it with new features, so I think we'll be able to keep up and fine tune based on feedback from the community.”

Greenberg is really confident that the NXE will make the console more attractive and that it also had a pretty big role in the great sales the Xbox 360 has been experiencing across all countries and territories. Let's just hope that new things will be added to the interface of the console and that every user will have a great time with the NXE in the future.

How about the fact that NXE sucked, and the fact that there was a huge freakin uproar about it, no lets just ignore that like we ignore every other complaint.

Netflix is amazing. I've been using it since launch on a daily basis. 4 bars everytime (max quality). The streaming is very impressive. Of course, the other major feature is install of games onto the hard drive. The 360 runs nearly silent without the DVD spinning. NXE is excellent.

[quote]Greenberg:
"With a U.S. install base lead now of more than 7 million units (according to NPD), I can’t imagine any scenario where the PS3 can catch up with us. In fact, even if you doubled the current PS3 sales and Xbox 360 remained flat, they couldn’t close the gap until 2014.".

I think the Microsoft propaganda machine went a little haywire this time. Greenberg has somehow calculated , in that little wanna-be Harvard business school mind of his, that Sony PS3 will only sell another 7 million units through 2014.

Since PS3 is only 7 million units behind XBox360, this is a little hard to believe.

Sorry Mr. Greenberg, try again.
