Redmond-based software giant Microsoft has been long rumored to plan the launch of its own Windows Phone 8 smartphone, and some more reports on the matter are now available.

According to the latest hearsay, the company has partnered with Foxconn for the manufacturing of the device, and is determined to launch it with the Surface brand on it.

No specific info on when the device might arrive on shelves has emerged so far, nor on the hardware specifications that the device would sport when released.

However, with the company’s CEO already confirming that Microsoft will actively engage in the launching of hardware to complement its software, it won’t come as a surprise if the Surface phone actually proves real.

Microsoft’s Surface phone would compete directly with Google’s Nexus handsets, as well as with Apple’s iPhone devices.
