The two companies might finalize the deal soon, rumor has it

Apple has already established itself as a leading mobile phone maker, and Google might soon make a similar move, since it is in the process of acquiring Motorola Mobility, and it would not come too much as a surprise if Microsoft made such a step, that’s for sure.

In fact, more rumors on the company’s plans to make such a change in its business strategy have just emerged, fueled by a report coming from Danske Bank, Denmark’s largest bank.

Apparently Microsoft and Nokia are currently discussing the possibility that the former would acquire the smartphone business from the Finnish handset vendor.

This is not the first time that Nokia and Microsoft are rumored to have entered such a deal, though it seems that Nokia was fast to dismiss the speculation

”We put these rumors to rest a long time ago,” a Nokia spokesperson said, according to BGR.

Back in May, similar rumors surfaced, suggesting that Nokia’s dying smartphone business might be transferred to Microsoft, and that the transaction would be finalized before the end of the ongoing year.

Danske Bank also raised the rating of Nokia’s stock from Hold to Buy, which resulted in shares increasing over 3 percent following the news.

A while back, Microsoft said that it did not have plans for entering the hardware business when it came to smartphones, and that the software licensing model it had was bound to remain unchanged in the foreseeable future.

However, there is a strong possibility that the company has changed its plans on the area, and that we would also see a Microsoft-branded smartphone brought to shelves in the not too far future.

The tight connection that the Redmond-based software giant and Nokia have at the moment would easily suggest that an acquisition could be near, though it all falls only in the rumor category for the time being. After all, Nokia did play all of its money on the Windows Phone card earlier this year.

We reached Microsoft on the matter but, as usual, the company would not comment on rumors or speculation.
