Microsoft SQL Server was under the spot light at the end of November for being the safest database available, according to a survey performed by the Enterprise Strategy Group. Microsoft SQL Server has bested Oracle the open source MySQL database in a report compiling Common Vulnerabilities and Exposures from the three products. Microsoft SQL Server featured only two vulnerabilities while Oracle had 70, and MySQL had 59.

A new study from the Evans Data Corporation illustrates that Microsoft SQL Server is the heart of wireless development: "In the world of wireless development, the backend database of choice is overwhelmingly Microsoft SQL Server, A third as many more wireless developers are using MS SQL Server as MySQL. Nearly 30% of all wireless development uses MS SQL Server, whereas 20% use MySQL. Even though Oracle came in third for databases for wireless apps, Oracle usage is expected to increase during the next year."

"A key focus of Microsoft is on the occasionally connected user or application," said John Andrews, Evans Data's President. "They recognize the future is all about mobility for people and enabling a continuum of data across all products from the data center to the mobile device."

The Evans Data Corporation's report additionally revealed that out of the 380 wireless developers surveyed, over 40% are implementing location based services, in excess of 41% of the respondents are using C# and that more than 47% are targeting smartphones with their development process.
