14 DAY TRIAL // After many months of confusion when we didn't know whether or not a new Windows Phone 8.1 update would be released by Microsoft after Update 1, the Redmond-based company cleared things up earlier this year.
The only smartphones from Microsoft that will receive Windows Phone 8.1 Update 2 as an upgrade will be Lumia 735 and Lumia 830.
Other new Windows Phone handsets might ship with this version of Windows Phone right out of the box, but only these two Lumia devices will be getting Update 2 as OTA.
Last month a range of OEM smartphones received Windows Phone 8.1 Update 2, including BLU Win HD LTE, Prestigio 8500 Duo, Yezz Billy 4.7, Lava Iris Win 1 and HTC One M8 for Windows.
Up until recently, only Microsoft Lumia 640 and Lumia 640 XL were released with Windows Phone 8.1 Update 2 onboard, but last month Verizon introduced the LG Lancet, a budget-friendly smartphone that comes with the same version of the OS.
Next week, Verizon Lumia 735 is expected to be launched with Windows 8.1 Update 2 right out of the box as well.
Microsoft has yet to confirm the rollout of the update
In order to make it right for Lumia 830 and Lumia 735 owners who have yet to receive the promised update, Microsoft has just started the rollout of Windows Phone 8.1 Update 2 for both smartphones.
We already reported on the Lumia 830 update, but now it looks like many Lumia 735 owners are reporting on WindowsCentral forums that they have received Windows Phone 8.1 Update 2 as well.
The update should upgrade the OS version to 15148, and for the time being it's been mentioned as available in the UK, Turkey, and Romania (Vodafone).
If you get this update on your Lumia 735, then you will be able to take advantage of some new features and improvements such as Bluetooth HID support for external keyboard, MKV support for video playback and Reset Protection.
