Microsoft has released three wallpaper packs for Mac users covering themes like the Grand Canyon, vintage automobiles, and the icy blue of the Arctic ocean.

The Bing wallpaper packs are made available as free downloads from the official Microsoft site. However, they’re not simple archives which (once expanded) reveal folders with wallpapers inside them. No siree, Bob. That would be too simple.

Instead, Microsoft throws in three disk images with installers in them. The wizard tries to convince you to set your home page to Bing, as well as to set your default search engine to Bing.

In other words, the “free” wallpapers are a gimmick to get you to switch to Bing. Not to mention that you actually have to reboot your Mac after installing these wallpaper packs in order to actually use them.

Oh, and they all have a huge Bing watermark on them too (take a look above).

Admittedly, you can just uncheck the boxes that try to push Bing on you, but you can also avoid the whole installation procedure by simply navigating to the wallpapers folder inside the package.

If you’re looking to just get your hands on the images and be done with it, simply follow these steps:

1. Download the wallpaper pack(s) (1,2,3) 2. Double click resulted disk image 3. Inside the disk image, right-click (Ctrl-click) the UNIMAC installer package 4. Select “Show Package Contents” 5. Double click “Contents” 6. Double click “Resources” 7. Locate the Wallpapers folder and copy it to your computer
