The newest Android smartphone launched by Microsoft, the Nokia X Dual SIM made its debut on the market back in July and it’s already getting a major update.

Nokia X2 Dual SIM is powered by a customized Android operating system based on Jelly Bean 4.3. The forked version of Android that runs on the Nokia X2 Dual SIM does not include any Google services.

Microsoft replaced them with Bing and HERE services. Nokia X2 Dual SIM users are given access to third-party app stores, including Nokia Store, instead of Google Play Store which is not available in the phone.

However, it looks like Microsoft has already decided that it would be a bad move to remove Google services altogether, which is why they are now planning to introduce them again in all Nokia X smartphones.

The latest software update for Nokia X2 Dual SIM brings lots of new features and improvements, which are meant to make the smartphone much more appealing to Android fans.

One of the most important changes included in Nokia X software platform 2.1 is the addition of Google services support. Once the update is applied, Nokia X2 Dual SIM owners will be able to access any Google services, as well as sync Google contacts or check their Gmail inbox.

There’s also a new Camera application that allows users to capture fast-moving objects with the new Smart Mode, as well as create photos by using the Action shot, Best shot, or Motion blur options.

More customization options such as Live Wallpapers and new Lockscreen widgets have also been included. The update also brings up to 15 GB of personal storage space on OneDrive for free and the possibility to sync up to 500 notes to OneNote.

The HERE Maps app has been updated with turn-by-turn voice guidance with a free global navigation license, but it requires additional HERE Maps updates from Store.

The Store app has been improved as well with a fresh design to help Nokia X2 Dual SIM owners find content more easily, and better integration with 3rd-party stores.

Last but not least, Microsoft confirmed they added local calendar support, call reject with a message, parental controls for Store, landscape support for mail and messaging, and auto-configuration of mail accounts.

Nokia X2 Dual SIM owners who have yet to be notified on the update can manually check for it by going to Settings / About Phone / System Update / Check Now.

Keep in mind that the update has more than 200MB in size, so we recommend Nokia X2 Dual SIM users to download it via a Wi-Fi connection in order to avoid mobile data charges.
