Windows Phone fans in the United States rejoice, as Microsoft has just started the rollout of the highly anticipated Nokia Black software update for Lumia 1020. There's a catch though, the new software update is only available through AT&T.

The carrier has just confirmed Microsoft has kicked off the deployment of the upgrade over the air (OTA) in stages, which means AT&T Lumia 1020 devices will receive it over the next few days, not all at once.

Those unfamiliar with the Nokia Black should know the major update brings lots of enhancements and new features. Improvements to the Lumia 1020's overall performance and imaging capabilities have been included as well.

Some of the most important changes in this update for AT&T Lumia 1020, include the follwing:

- Enhanced Glance Screen: the Lumia Glance Screen now displays all important notifications such as new emails, missed calls, text messages and more – even when the screen is dark. Icons will appear beneath the digital clock, which is currently offered as a feature of the Glance Screen. - Bluetooth Low Energy support: Bluetooth Low Energy (BTLE) allows users to easily sync accessories such as heart rate monitors with their Nokia Lumia to create differentiated experiences with apps. - Lock Screen Options: Users can opt for either portrait or landscape mode to accommodate even greater customization and personalization.

It is is also worth mentioning the update enables RAW support for Nokia Lumia 1020's 41-megapixel photo snapper. Although the feature was included within the phone, it needed Nokia Black update to actually function correctly.

In the same piece of new AT&T Lumia 1520 also received a small update, which is said to “enable CMAS notifications such as Amber Alerts on 2G/3G/LTE.”

AT&T customers should go ahead and manually check their Lumia 1020 and 1520 smartphones for the updates by going to Settings / Phone update / Check update.
