Microsoft announced a few days ago that there was a high chance new updates for Windows Phone 8.1 Developer Preview builds would be launched sometime this week.

According to Joe Belfiore, these updates should fix some of the most annoying bugs found in the Developer Preview. Today, the Redmond-based company has confirmed that a new update for Windows Phone Preview for Developers 8.1.1 is available for download.

It looks like Windows Phone version 8.10.14176 build is being pushed by Microsoft beginning today and lots of Developer Preview adopters report they have received the update on their devices.

As Belfiore noted in a tweet, the update that’s now rolling out to Windows Phone handsets should fix the storage error bug. Many smartphones were affected by error 80188308, which resulted in running out of storage space in the system partition during the update.

Microsoft confirmed that the 14176 update should fix this issue, so those who could not install a Windows Phone 8.1 Preview for Developers update will now be able to upgrade their smartphones to the latest version of the software.

Keep in mind though that if you own a Nokia Lumia smartphone and you are still running into this error with the latest update, you must use the Nokia Software Recovery tool to reset your handset.

Those who own smartphones with lower storage capacity may also encounter another storage error, different from the error 80188308 mentioned earlier. In order to solve the issue, make sure you make some storage room in your phone by uninstalling some apps and games, or by deleting pictures/videos.

The update is available for HTC 8X and HTC One for Windows as well

But there’s even more. Microsoft has also announced that, while it has started to roll out the Lumia Cyan update to many Nokia Lumia smartphones with Windows Phone 8.1 Developer Preview, the majority of users have yet to receive it.

Beginning today, Lumia Cyan is deployed to a new bunch of Nokia Lumia smartphones, and Microsoft promises to add more Lumia devices every couple of days over the coming weeks.

Basically, this means that the Lumia Cyan update will be delivered in a staged manner, so in the next few months, all compatible Nokia Lumia phones should receive it.

Last but not least, build 8.10.14176 is said to provide “a bunch of performance improvements and general fixes,” but no additional details on any of these have been shared yet.
