Microsoft continues its efforts to move users off Windows XP, this time with an infographic that shows the advantages of migrating to a newer operating system.

Basically, the Softies are trying to convince everyone that Windows 8 Pro is the best choice when looking for a modern alternative for Windows XP, emphasizing that 100 million licenses have already been sold.

“Windows 8 has been reimaged to focus on your life. The new Start screen is smooth and intuitive, and gives you instant access to your people, apps, and stuff, so you spend less time searching and more time doing,” the infographic reads.

In addition, Microsoft also talks apps, explaining that Modern apps are here to help users do whatever they want without even leaving the Metro UI.

“Apps are the heart of Windows 8. From the moment you turn it on, you’ll have a set of built-in apps for the things you do the most: email, calendaring, social networking and sharing photos.”

Unsurprisingly, not all users seem to get the message and Windows XP remains a widespread operating system less than 12 months ahead of its retirement date.

According to statistics provided by market researcher Net Applications, Windows XP is currently powering 37.17 percent of the computers worldwide, while Windows 8 is still far behind with only 5.10 percent.

Windows XP has barely lost users in the last months, despite all Microsoft’s efforts. XP had a market share of 40.66 percent in October 2012 when Windows 8 was launched, dropping to 39.08 percent in December 2012.

The Softies, on the other hand, hope that the upcoming refresh of Windows 8, simply called 8.1, will stir up interest in its “modern” operating system, as it comes with several improvements, including a Start button.

And still, the new Start button doesn’t launch the traditional Start Menu, but instead gets users to the new Start screen supposed to provide one-click access to both Metro and desktop apps.
