Windows 8.1 will bring a brand new option that would allow users to purchase applications using gift cards or promotional cards that can be separately purchased from either Microsoft retailers or official stores.

Not a long time ago, Amazon started selling so-called Microsoft Windows Gift Cards for $15 (€11), so it looks like the Redmond-based tech giant is actually preparing this particular option for the new Windows 8.1 scheduled to go live next month.

Microsoft hasn’t yet commented on this option, but McAkins Online spotted the option in the Windows Store settings of Windows 8.1 RTM.

The new OS update will go live on October 18, with Microsoft promising to deliver a new set of improvements just ahead of the launch party. Windows 8 users will be allowed to download it free from the Store, while those running older versions of Windows can purchase it for $119.99 (€90).
