After announcing a new version of its popular video chatting and IM client Skype, Microsoft has pulled the update, along with the official announcement on the Skype blog.

The reason for Microsoft retracting Skype 6.14 remains unclear, but it seems that the binary was never actually rolled out for people to download the goods.

The blog post announcing the update is gone now, in what appears to be a change of heart on behalf of the Redmond-based software giant.

Skype 6.14 promised to offer new UI changes and several enhancements under the hood, such as a nag for people who forgot Do Not Disturb switched to ON.

Users were also promised the ability to make text bigger and have it stay that way throughout all their chats.

Microsoft ended the announcement saying, “We hope you enjoy this update. Download Skype for Mac 6.14 today, give it a try, and let us know what you think.” There’s still no download available at the time of this writing.

One of the reasons Skype 6.14 was pulled is probably a serious bug discovered at the last minute. We can’t speculate any further, as the cause could be anything from a backend glitch to a serious security vulnerability. But we’ll be sure to let you know the minute we find out.

In the meantime, Skype 6.12 remains the latest Stable version available to Mac users, while iPhone and iPad customers can download Skype 4.17 as their latest stable client.

New abilities added to Skype 4.17.1 on iPhone include: receive chat messages even when Skype is closed, sync chat messages faster across all your devices, and improved HD video calls on iPhone 5S. Version 4.17 for iPad also offers two-way HD video calls on iPad Air and iPad mini with Retina display.
