The Microsoft Bluetooth Notebook Mouse 5000 and the Wireless Notebook Laser Mouse 7000 are the Redmond company's response to the 30% growth during the past year of the U.S. retail dollar volume associated with the notebook PCs market. Essentially, the peripherals are Microsoft's way of getting ready for the holiday season. The Wireless Notebook Laser Mouse 7000 is planned for consumer availability by the end of this month, while the Bluetooth Notebook Mouse 5000 will drop in October. Both products will feature similar price tags, which Microsoft
estimates at just $49.95.

"These additions to our product line showcase how Microsoft delivers the tools that match consumers' computing needs - providing comfortable tools for the growing number of notebook users to get the job done on the go," said Ivan Meljac, product marketing manager for Microsoft Hardware. "The Hardware Group focuses on ease of use, and these mice are no exception, with simple, quick and reliable wireless connections."

One thing that the company emphasized is the focus on notebook machines. The Bluetooth Notebook Mouse 5000, with 2.4GHz technology, is even designed to integrate seamlessly with the Bluetooth ready computers. And in this context, the device does not require a transceiver to work. Underneath the ambidextrous design, the Redmond company placed batteries that guarantee over three months of functionality.

The Wireless Notebook Laser Mouse 7000, as well as the 5000 model, features 2.4GHz wireless technology built to ensure functionality even in the context of heavy interference in crowded wireless environments. Microsoft is also offering "smart software connection - one click of the wheel provides instant access to the Windows Vista Flip 3D feature, letting users flip through open windows and quickly switch between applications for added productivity. [As well as] soft-grip sides and an ergonomic, ambidextrous design put comfort in the palm of users' hands."
