Microsoft has now dealt with issues that caused some Windows Live services, including Hotmail and SkyDrive to be unavailable.

The Redmond company confirmed the Windows Live Hotmail and SkyDrive outage in the late hours of September 8, 2011.

According to Microsoft’s Chris Jones, Windows Live customers had been reporting problems when accessing the services enumerated above.

“We believe we have restored service for all customers at this time. We will continue our investigation into the root cause of these issues and post an update following our investigation,” Jones revealed at 9:45 PM PT.

It turned out that the Windows Live downtime had yet to be resolved, with users still reporting that the services were down in various markets worldwide.

Over an hour after the software giant announced that it had fixed the issue, it acknowledged that Windows Live Hotmail and SkyDrive were still inaccessible.

“We're aware of reports (…) that some customers still are seeing issues. We are working on propagating the DNS configuration changes and so it will take some time to restore service to everyone,” Jones added.

It took Microsoft almost another hour in order to completely resolve the Windows Live outage. As of September 8, 11:49 PM PT, Jones was noting:

“We have completed propagating our DNS configuration changes around the world, and have restored service for most customers. Depending on your location you may still experience issues over the next 30 minutes as the changes make their way through the network. Thank you for your patience as we have worked to address these issues.”

At the time of this article, all Windows Live services seem to be functioning under normal parameters. I just logged into Windows Live Hotmail and everything was just fine, this should also be the case for all users around the world.

Microsoft has not detailed the exact cause of the outage.
