Together with the URGE service

The download service URGE, co-developed by Microsoft and MTV, has been launched today along with a promotion aimed at encouraging users to try it out.

Together with URGE, Microsoft today released the official beta for Windows Media Player 11, which also leaked, for some unknown reasons, on the Internet a few days ago.

Microsoft recently decided to change its plans for the new version, which was only scheduled for Vista.

In order to ease the switch from the old version to the new Media Player 11, Microsoft has created a few tutorials that teach users to carry out different tasks.

Media Player 11 and the URGE service are Microsoft's solution to the huge success recorded by Apple's iTunes and iPod.

As we reported yesterday, URGE, which has an "intimate" relation with Microsoft's multimedia player, won't be compatible with Apple's wonder player. This will likely cause iPod owners to stick with iTunes.

Windows Media Player 11 has been tested by Softpedia as being 100% FREE and is available for download here.
