Microsoft continues its efforts to promote specific apps in the Windows Store with a new temporary section that showcases “apps for kids.”

The category comes with software solutions specifically aimed at children, including games, drawing software and education tools.

“Need help keeping the kids busy while they’re stuck indoors? There won’t be any time for boredom once they get their hands on these apps,” the section’s description reads.

At the same time, the Windows Store is also providing access to a number of apps available with a freeware license for a limited period of time. This separate software section currently holds a total of four different apps, namely The ESPN App, Expedia, The New York Times and Zinio.

The offer is valid through January 31, 2013, so in case you wish to download any of them, you still have a few days left to do it.
