Following the release of an update to OneDrive for iOS, Microsoft now offers the ability to access your OneDrive for Business account in the same app, something that Android users have been enjoying for a while. A Mac app dubbed OneDrive for Business is also being made available.

A near-perfect replica of Dropbox but specifically crafted to integrate seamlessly with Windows, OneDrive is Microsoft’s widely-used cloud service for syncing and sharing files between devices and people. It integrates with Office and has a built-in system-wide search function.

iOS app now ready “for Business”

With the updated OneDrive for iOS, business users can now securely store all their files and share them with coworkers, while subscribers get 1 TB of storage. Office is fully integrated, which means you can create, edit and review documents in real time with other people. Yammer collaboration is integrated as well.

Version control ensures everyone is working on the newest document with the ability to go back to a previous iteration. Users can further set up a review and approval process.

The iOS app has an improved design and offers the ability to create photo albums that fetch the photos from where they are stored (various folders and sub-folders) and groups them all together without having to actually move them around. Tags can be generated automatically by object recognition, and search has been improved with text recognition in photos and documents. Password managers 1Password and LastPass are fully supported as well.

OneDrive for Business Mac app

A desktop client of OneDrive for Business has been deployed on OS X platforms as well.

As part of the cloud-based Microsoft Office 365 productivity toolset, OneDrive for Business on the Mac makes it easier than ever to store, sync, and find the files you’re looking for, collaborate on them with clients and coworkers, share securely, and manage content with a bird’s eye view.

On the topic of security, Microsoft says this much: “Your files are yours— we safeguard them and protect your privacy. Building on the foundation of creating enterprise software and running online services, our team is continually updating OneDrive for Business to deliver a highly secure cloud productivity service that meets rigorous industry standards in compliance.”

To try the new Mac app, download OneDrive for Business, mound the resulted disk image by double clicking it, then double click the included PKG file. When OneDrive for Business starts for the first time, you’ll need to punch in your Office 365 credentials and finally select a folder to hold your files.
