Microsoft has been hard at work to deliver Xbox users lots of improvements and new features that would enhance their gaming experience even further. Just like the Xbox One console, its controller had been receiving software updates for quite some time now.

Some of the new firmware updates released by Microsoft brought lots of new features, as well as bug fixes and other improvements, while others only addressed a few minor issues or added some much needed functionality enhancements.

Today's update doesn't bring too many new features and improvements. Nevertheless, any updates that somehow improve the functionality of the Xbox One controller is more than welcomed, so even if it doesn't bring too many, it's important to install these firmware updates. Now that you've been warned, here is what this firmware update adds to the Xbox One controller.

Well, first of all, it adds Quick Connect, which will allow the controller to connect to an Xbox One in approximately 2 seconds, which is quite an improvement considering the previous versions took 4-5 seconds to connect.

Last but not least, the update should bring a number of fixes that address some of the issues submitted by customers and preview participants.

The controller firmware update is meant for members of Xbox Preview Program

In order to download and install the latest firmware update for the Xbox One controller, simply connect it to your Xbox One with a USB cable. Make sure to keep any headsets connected to the controller. Then, connect to Xbox Live, press the Menu, go to Settings / Devices & accessories.

After that, select the controller, but if you have multiple controllers attached, you can choose Buzz, which will cause the selected controller to vibrate.

After selecting it, choose Update in order to download the new firmware to the controller attached via the USB cable and the screen will show the Updating controller progress screen.

As soon as you see the Controller updated screen, press “B” to go back to the Devices & accessories main page. Then, simply reselect the controller, the firmware version, should now be 1.2.2236.0.
