Windows 10 Technical Preview build 9879 is now available for all members of the Windows Insider Program, no matter if they are subscribed to the slow or fast update channels, but everyone can give the new release a try with the help of stand-alone ISOs.

Originally released after the public launch of Windows 10 build 9879, these ISOs have been updated to include the recent improvements made for slow ring users, among which some performance enhancements and other bug fixes that are supposed to lead to an overall more stable experience on the desktop.

Officially called “Windows Technical Preview November Update,” the ISO is available in multiple languages, namely English US, English UK, Chinese Simplified, and Portuguese, and can be installed on both 32- and 64-bit configurations.

The 32-bit version of the ISO measures 2.98 GB in size, while the 64-bit package goes up to 4.01 GB, depending on the language you choose.

“This update will only install on devices that are currently running Windows Technical Preview. If you are currently running Windows 7, Windows 8, or another version of Windows, you can download an ISO file that you can use to install the preview,” Microsoft explains.

Specifically designed for clean installs

The existing update system that's integrated into Windows 10 Technical Preview allows the installation of new builds automatically, without any input required from users.

This way, users can keep their settings and apps untouched and the new build is automatically deployed on their computers, together with new features, options, and any other updates that are included in this release.

The ISO, on the other hand, comes in very handy to those who want to perform a clean install and make sure that everything works as it should, as there are some complaints online that the update process sometimes fails to complete.

Needless to say, this is update is not aimed at beginners, and Microsoft says that trying out an early build like the one currently available as part of the Windows Insider Program is very risky and should be handled cautiously. Moreover, the company recommends users to avoid installing the preview on primary home or business PCs, and if you really want to give it a shot and don't have another option, it's better to do it in a virtual machine.

Windows 10 Technical Preview hasn't experienced any major issues until now, but it's a well-known fact that software solutions that are still in development could include bugs and other problems that could lead to data loss and other system problems.
