Redmond is working on a redesign of its Modern apps

Microsoft is working to make Windows 10 a bit more visually appealing, but in addition to lots of improvements for the desktop, the company is also trying to redesign all Modern apps offered with the operating system.

The first in the queue appears to be the Weather app, which received a complete makeover in Windows 10 build 10056 and which is very likely to make it to the final version of the operating system scheduled to go live in the second half of this year.

Leaked a couple of days ago, build 10056 comes with several enhancements, including the aforementioned redesigned Weather app that appears to continue Microsoft’s new strategy of bundling the hamburger-style button in its future projects.

Although that might disappoint quite a lot of users, it becomes clearer that Microsoft wants the hamburger to survive in Windows 10, and with more apps getting it, chances to see this happening are increasing.

New design, new menu

The new Weather app available in build 10056 comes with a fresh and modern design, but in essence, it provides pretty much the same amount of information as the existing version does.

What’s indeed different is the way you access this information, as the hamburger icon comes with a new menu that lets you toggle between locations, launch settings, and work with the other features of the app.

You still get the current and an extended forecast, minimum and maximum weather temperature values for each configured location, as well as news and maps. Some features are still locked right now, such as historical weather and favorites, but they are very likely to become available in future updates.

All in all, the new Weather app looks good and works well, but it remains to be seen if that Android-inspired hamburger button can survive the criticism.
