Keeping Windows 8.1 apps up-to-date is quite essential for both Microsoft and users, as the Modern UI is rapidly gaining traction among adopters of the new operating system.

After rolling out updates for many of the built-in Windows 8.1 apps, Microsoft today released a new version of the News tool as well, thus fixing bugs and addressing some of the performance issues found in older builds.

This time, Redmond hasn’t provided an official change log to detail what’s new in this particular release, but just like in happened in the last couple of weeks, the new version is most likely aimed at fixing bugs and other issues reported by users.

The feature package remains basically unchanged and comprises options to see the day’s top stories and trending topics, customize the home screen with your favorite news sections, add new sources and topics, and read stories offline by downloading the articles you like.

“Designed for Windows, the News app puts control at your fingertips. Swipe through for a quick read of the headlines. Go deep with personalized coverage of the topics you're passionate about. Or, search the day's stories from your choice of trusted sources from around the world,” the app description reads.

Just like before, the News app supports all Windows 8.1 versions on the market, so it can be installed on both desktops and tablets running Microsoft’s latest offering in the OS industry.

In case you’ve already installed Windows 8.1 and kept the default settings, app updates are automatically installed, so no user input is required. This means that the fresh News app version is already there on your computer, unless you’ve chosen otherwise.

Overall, every single app update needs to be installed by users as soon as possible, so go ahead and download News for Windows 8.1 right away.
