Microsoft has just announced that multi-factor authentication is now available for all Office 365 users after the initial debut of the feature for consumers with administrative roles in June 2013.

The new option will be offered to all users without requiring any additional purchase or subscription, the company said, and comprises multiple options, including mobile and office phone calls or text messages, app notifications, one-time codes displayed in apps.

“After a user is enabled for multi-factor authentication, they will be required to configure their second factor of authentication at their next login. Each subsequent login is enforced and will require use of the password and phone acknowledgement,” the company explained.

The new option has been added to Office 365 to Office 365 Midsize Business, Enterprise plans, Academic plans, Nonprofit plans, and standalone Office 365 plans, including Exchange Online and SharePoint Online, according to Microsoft.
