It's no secret that many of those who tried to install Windows 8.1 Update experienced quite a lot of issues and Microsoft itself confirmed this, but the company has launched yet another patch to address at least one error showing up during the deployment process.

The KB2969339 fix was rolled out together with the Patch Tuesday updates and was specifically designed to address error 80073712 experienced by a number of users who tried to install Windows 8.1 Update.

Not much has been said about this particular release, but Microsoft confirmed in an advisory that it's designed to address this particular error and to make Windows 8.1 Update installation possible on more systems.

Users who tried to switch to Windows 8.1 Update and encountered this error turned to Microsoft's Community forums to explain that none of the workarounds released by the company actually worked.

“I have the same problem with the error code 80070005 when I'm trying to install Windows 8.1 x64 Update KB2919355 (the big one of aprox. 900 MBytes) only for 1 PC. As yourself, I tried a lot of tricks but none of them worked,” one user explained.

At this point, there's no information whether this new update fixes the encountered issues, but keep in mind that Windows 8.1 Update is mandatory as of June 10, so it's clearly worth a try if you're still having problems installing the new OS version.
