Microsoft’s search engine packaged as a dedicated iOS app is getting a few improvements in version 4.0.2, out now for iPhone and iPod touch on the iTunes App Store.

Bing 4.0.2 is mainly a bug-fix release. Microsoft doesn’t name the errors that got corrected in this version, but you can safely update trusting that Bing will work better once you have version 4.0.2 up and running on your iDevice.

Some user interface optimizations are also included – again, Microsoft is a bit shy to describe them in detail – alongside some “overall performance improvements.”

Bing has voice-activated search, as well as image search. You can scan things and then use Bing Vision to get product information or recognize cover art from books, CD, DVDs, and video games.

Bing doesn’t run natively on iPads, but it is compatible with all iDevices as long as they’re running iOS 4.3. On small-screen devices (iPhone and iPod touch), Bing offers a native experience.
