Redmond is shipping new versions of updates that caused problems in the past and that were rolled out on Patch Tuesdays

It’s a well-known fact that many of the updates that Microsoft has rolled out in the last few months have caused issues on Windows computers, so the company launches revised versions of these patches once in a while to make sure that everything works as expected.

This time, Microsoft has rolled out three of the updates that it released on Patch Tuesday and that were causing trouble on Windows 7 and Windows 8.1, but as Woody Leonhard of InfoWorld writes, this isn’t the first time when the company tries to fix them.

The revised updates

KB2952664, for instance, was re-released several times last year and no less than six times in 2015, which is living proof that it’s causing problems for Windows users, and Microsoft can’t determine the exact source of these issues.

According to the official description of the patch, the update is supposed to “help Microsoft make improvements to the current operating system in order to ease the upgrade experience to the latest version of Windows,” so it could be related to the way users can upgrade their PCs to Windows 10.

KB2977759, on the other hand, is aimed at Windows 7 computers and is designed to “help Microsoft and its partners ensure compatibility for customers who are seeking to install the latest Windows operating system.” It’s currently at its ninth revision, so it’s pretty clear that Microsoft had a hard time trying to fix it.

And last but not least, KB2976978 comes to “perform diagnostics on the Windows systems that participate in the Windows Customer Experience Improvement Program in order to determine whether compatibility issues may be encountered when the latest Windows operating system is installed,” as Microsoft explains on its page.

This one is aimed at Windows 8.1 and Windows 8, and is currently at version 10.0, which again points to several attempts and revisions that this patch has received lately.

Needless to say, you are recommended to download and install these patches, especially if you’ve encountered problems with original releases.
